8 Mile Did U Know?

~ 8 Mile was tentatively called The Untitled Detroit Project during the filming.

~ The club scenes at the Chin Tiki were filmed in the abandoned Michigan Building (where Ford was 1st created).

~EM wrote “Lose Yourself” on the set of “8 Mile.”

~ Hailie and Chloe Greenfield (the girl who plays EM’s ˝ sister, Lily) were good friends on the set. EM would read them stories to calm them down when they were too hyper.

~ Residents of Detroit picketed against the scene where EM and his friends burn down the abandoned house because they felt it portrayed a bad image of their city.

~ JLB was really the name of the local Hip Hop radio station EM would listen 2.

~The lyrics EM has on tha bus R from "Lose Yourself" & The Eminem Show.

~The movie Stephanie (Rabbit's mom) is watching while she's doin her nails is called The Imitation of Life.

~ Wink has promo posters of Tha Gravediggaz in his basement.

~ Lily watches Woody Woodpecker and Barney. She also has Strawberry Shortcake shoelaces. (They’re on the desk when EM is writing in her room).

~ Obie Trice is the first person rapping in the circle before EM freestyles in the parking lot.

~ Sara Stokes from P. Diddy's Da Band is in tha crowd at The Shelter. She's on EM's right side after he wins tha battle vs. Papa Doc and is mouthing, "What? What? What?" She lives in Port Huron, MI near tha D and was cast as an extra about a year before auditioning for Da Band.

~ EM’s group, Three-One-Third, is named after the Detroit area code (313). The name is also a joke on the 19th century legal view that blacks counted as “1/3” of a person. It’s reversed cuz the group has 3 blacks and the 1/3 is EM. In late 20th century, EM is the fraction.

~ The battle scenes were originally going to be silent and used in a montage, but EM couldn’t keep quiet. He would always retaliate to the person he was battling-even when he was just dissed as a movie character.

~ The family photo EM finds in the house they burn down is really a picture of people dressed up in vintage 70s clothes to make it look authentic. The crew had been looking for a real picture at flea markets, but was unsuccessful.
